NJO Muziekzomer presents ‘Workers Union’, a music and dance performance created by Regina van Berkel named after ‘Workers Union’ by Louis Andriessen.

Last year, choreographer Van Berkel created ‘Music for a Summer Evening’ for the NJO Muziekzomer 2014. ‘Music for a Summer Evening’ was a very successful show brought on stage in Radio Kootwijk, a former broadcast station in a lovely part of the province of Gelderland in The Netherlands.

This year, Regina van Berkel and stage designer Dietmar Janeck needed an industrial building for their new show. They chose an old factory in the city of Nijmegen: Cultuurspinnerij De Vasim, a remarkable building with an equally striking interior. Huge arches add to the unique atmosphere. The audience will move around the space during the performance.

Ten students from 4 European colleges will dance to several works by Andriessen -- including Workers Union, written ‘for any loud-sounding group of instruments’.

Musicians:

Tim Sabel - piano
Martin van Hees - guitar
Isa Goldschmeding - violin
Daan van Koppen - saxophone
Jennifer Heins - percussion

Students from:

Rotterdamse Dansacademie (Codarts) Rotterdam,
Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Frankfurt am Main,
Anton Bruckner Privatuniversität Linz,
Ballettschule "Star Ballet", Mainz und Oppenheim

Free guided tours before each concert (7.30 pm) can be booked by sending an email to: muziekzomer@njo.nl  (subject ‘rondleiding De Vasim’).

Workers Union in Boston

New Music Festival at Boston Conservatory includes performance of Workers Union (November 15th).
"Only in the case that every player plays with such an intention that his part is an essential one, the work will succeed, just as as in the political work".
Here you can see Bang on a Can All Stars performing this piece.
